Mycology, the study of fungi, is a vast and diverse field with numerous sub-disciplines. One of these sub-disciplines is Mycelium, which may not be a term that is familiar to most people. In simple terms, mycelium refers to the branching network of thread-like structures that make up the vegetative part of a fungus. Mycelium is essentially the “body” of a fungus and is responsible for the organism’s growth and nutrition. It is made up of thin, translucent filaments called hyphae.
